Tony Halik, born Mieczysław Antoni Sędzimir Halik on January 24, 1921 in Toruń, Prosta Street, was a Polish-Argentinian film operator, documentary film-maker, author of travel books, traveller, explorer, and polyglot speaking Spanish, English, French, Portuguese, Italian, German, Guarani and Xavante.

Tony Halik, właściwie Mieczysław Sędzimir Antoni Halik, ur. 24 stycznia 1921 w Toruniu przy ul. Prostej, był polsko-argentyńskim operatorem filmowym, autorem filmów dokumentalnych, dziennikarzem, pisarzem, podróżnikiem i poliglotą posługującym się językami: hiszpańskim, angielskim, francuskim, portugalskim, włoskim, niemieckim, guarani i Xavante.

Elżbieta Dzikowska


Polish art historian, sinologist, explorer, director and operator of documentary films, author of many books, television programs, radio broadcasts, articles and exhibitions of contemporary art.

Along with her life partner, Tony Halik, she has made about 300 documentary films all over the world for Polish Television and hosted the popular travel television programme "Pepper and Vanilla".

Aleksander Doba


National Geographic 2015 Adventurer of the Year who at 67 years old made the longest open-water kayak crossing of the Atlantic in history.

Paddled 7,700 miles in his 23-foot kayak, departing in October 2013 from Lisbon and arriving six months later in Florida. The only person to kayak across the Atlantic, continent-to-continent, alone, unassisted, and under his own power.

The objective of the Committee



To celebrate Tony Halik's birthday in Toruń, where the traveler was born, a committee was established. Committee objective is to name a small park in the center of Torun after prominent traveler Tony Halik to celebrate explorers 100th Birthday on January 24, 2021

Little park is situated on the border of the Medieval Town of Toruń - fascinating UNESCO World Heritage Site and Art Nouveau suburban Bydgoskie.

Honorary members of the committee include Tony Halik's life partner, explorer, author, and director Elżbieta Dzikowska, who together with Tony made about 300 documentary films all over the world.

Initiative is also powered by Aleksander Doba - National Geographic 2015 Adventurer of the Year who made the longest open-water kayak crossing of the Atlantic in history - the only person to kayak across the Atlantic, continent-to-continent, alone, unassisted, and under his own power.


Long-term goal


Long-term goal, after Tony Halik is honoured with the park naming, is to declare a competition for best project of the monument of Tony Halik that would be erected in the park. Competition would be settled by art historian and author of many exhibitions of contemporary art Elżbieta Dzikowska.
